Shane Scott (Molalla, Oregon) holds the lead after his opening-round victory in front of his home-state fans at (PBR) Professional Bull Riders Eugene – April 2024 (https://pbr.com/news/).
As a young adult, Shane is making his family proud. Shane is a Teach One to Lead One (T1L1) graduate who is embracing his full potential. We first met Shane a few years ago when he participated in one of our Teach One to Lead One elementary school programs.
In Shane’s words, “I remember the very first day that T1L1 mentors came into our classroom. I asked myself, ‘What am I doing here? Why am I in this class?’ I felt ashamed and thought I was in a special class for kids who got in trouble.”
“Growing up, I remember struggling in school, particularly in math. Sometimes, my parents weren’t really happy about that, so I got in trouble at home cause they thought I was just goofing off. To my surprise, the T1L1 program was fun, and the mentors made it understandable and relatable. The mentors seemed to have a kid’s brain!”
“I really liked my mentors, especially T1L1 mentor “farmer” Jack! Our mentors taught us courage is pushing past our fears to accomplish our goals. Farmer Jack pointed out to me that I knew something about courage. I didn’t realize it then, but I did this each time I jumped onto a bull in a rodeo arena. It can be really scary riding a bull.”
